This video presentation is the 3rd and final installment in a series on performance analysis and the coaching process. If you missed either of the first two posts then I would strongly encourage you to watch these by following the links below and then come back to this post.
Performance Analysis & the Coaching Process – Part I
Performance Analysis & the Coaching Process – Part II
Brief background – this video presentation uses material I presented at the Level 3 AFL High Performance coaching course at the Australian Institute of Sport late last year. Whilst it is based on Australian Football, I hope that all team sports coaches can find some useful snippets in here that they may be able to apply to coaching their sport.
This final section of the presentation covers what I believe to be the most crucial part in the whole process – applying understanding and insight that you have gained from analysis to design your training activities and best coach/teach your players in this setting.
Some of the key topics covered in this video are:
- Auditing your games and training – why?
- Understanding the dynamics of the game – why it is important and how analysis can fast-track this
- Designing training activities and manipulating constraints
- The “coachable moment” (on and off field)
- No more “cut and paste” – remove the need to mindlessly copy other peoples drills
Once again the video is a bit lengthy (nearly 20 minutes), so get that coffee (or beer even?), have a look and let me know your thoughts!
